Hunter Tarvin, LCSW, is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in New Jersey and earned her MSW at N.Y.U. She is deeply passionate about supporting individuals on their paths toward healing, growth, and greater self-understanding. Grounded in presence, empathy, and genuine curiosity, Hunter believes every behavior is rooted in emotion and unmet inner needs.
In addition to her clinical training, Hunter is a certified RYT-200 yoga instructor. She weaves yogic principles into her work to support mind-body awareness, emotion regulation, and a sense of calm and clarity. She meets clients exactly where they are and enjoys supporting those navigating life transitions, managing stress or anxiety, working through mental health challenges, or seeking personal growth.
In her free time, Hunter enjoys practicing yoga, being outside and in nature, trying new recipes, and spending time with her yellow lab, Phoebe.
Feeling overwhelmed? Believe you aren't good enough? Dealing with grief/loss? Struggling to adjust to life challenges (health problems, career, college, infertility)? Experiencing relationship difficulties? Want to learn how to effectively communicate with others? I'm eager to hear your story. I'll encourage you to express your thoughts, feelings, and experiences at your own pace. From there, we will work together to identify problematic beliefs and behaviors impacting different aspects of your life with the goal of gaining a new perspective and using your strengths to create a healthy lifestyle.
My clinical training was in adult psychiatry at Columbia University Medical Center. I earned a Masters degree in Social Work from Florida International University and a PhD in Social Welfare from the City University of New York Graduate Center.
I specialize in working with adults who feel excluded in one way or another either at work, in their family, community, or society at large--immigrants, people of color, those with disabilities, LGBTQ+, etc. Even if you don't identify yourself in these ways, being treated as if you don't belong can impact parts of your life and I want to provide you support.
I generally assist adults with depression, anxiety, health problems, relationship issues, grief/loss, work stress, school issues, infertility, and parenting. My approach is warm, interactive and non-judgmental. I believe in collaborating with my clients to tailor a treatment plan to fit their unique needs. Depending on your goals in therapy, I generally incorporate a strength-based approach using cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness, motivational interviewing techniques and/or psychodynamic approaches to help increase self-awareness, engage in problem solving skills and teach positive coping strategies.

As a compassionate LCSW psychotherapist, I specialize in supporting adults dealing with anxiety disorders, depressive symptoms, trauma responses, emotional dysregulation, attachment wounds, relationship conflict, self-esteem challenges, and major life transitions. I provide a safe, trauma-informed, skills-based, and evidence-driven therapeutic environment where you can gain insight, strengthen coping skills, and learn new ways to regulate emotions and navigate stress.
My approach is collaborative, client-centered, and goal-focused, integrating CBT, ACT, mindfulness, and strengths-based strategies to help you build resilience, confidence, and emotional stability. Together, we’ll uncover the patterns holding you back, develop practical tools for managing anxiety and stress, and create a personalized plan for healing, growth, and long-term well-being.
