In a career that first began twenty years ago in the Middle East and journeyed to NYC, I have seen clients from every conceivable background who have sought nurturing guidance to face trauma, anxiety, grief and sadness. Often, whether working with men and women suffering from loss or separation, abuse victims, veterans, refugees, or families of substance abusers, I have witnessed that moment of clarity in a client when they realize there is actually hope for a better, more satisfying life. This, I believe, is the essence of therapy and I strive to smooth the path towards and beyond it.
My aim is to help my clients recover hope and find the hero within. I focus on deepening client/therapist relationship through insight, empathy, mindfulness, humor, care, creativity and humanity. Furthermore, I am determined these be not just words we throw around, but pointers towards a better life filled with dignity.
I love literature and have a Master's degree in Creative Writing. This, I believe, can be another unique window in one's approach to therapy.

Hi, I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a New York State licensed mental health therapist with advanced graduate training and years of experience supporting adults through life’s challenges.
I'm a Clinical Social Worker. My clinical objective includes empowering individuals and families to cultivate their"Inner Harmony Hub". The most important ingredient involves clients exercising self-compassion in a judgement free therapeutic space.
I’m a person in long-term recovery, which means I’ve been substance-free since July 13th, 2016. My experiences with depression, anxiety, and self-medicating eventually became a substance use disorder—and ultimately led me to a deeper purpose in the counseling field. I understand the weight of isolation, low self-worth, and the struggle to feel “okay.” If you’re dealing with anxiety, self-image issues, substance use, relationship challenges, or overwhelming stress, I offer not just professional tools—but personal understanding. I can help you feel less alone.
Hello! My name is Peter Curkendall.
As a Board Certified licensed professional counselor and certified integrative life coach, my focus is on integrating mind/body modalities to help individuals, couples, and groups reach their full potential. My counseling style is inviting and interactive and is grounded in wellness, humor, and pragmatism with a client-focused, strength-based approach. I employ an empathetic, direct, and practical counseling style, using a wide range of evidenced based tools to make our time most meaningful and enhance your everyday life concerns.
I view clients through a developmental lens and use an eclectic approach, from an evidenced based perspective, and meet people where they are. This includes skillful and strategic use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Existential, family systems, Rogerian, Narrative therapies, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Behavioral approaches. I seek to collaboratively develop an individualized, person-centered focus and existential theoretical framework. I have worked extensively with individuals, groups, and families around trauma and sexual abuse. While helping people develop tools and skills to empower them and help them achieve their goals, I support people through their process and share their journey. Empathy, compassion, trust, and respect are cornerstones of my approach.
I provide a holistic, eclectic, flexible approach. Interventions are customized for the individual and believe a good relationship between therapist and client is key to the process of counseling. Please let me know what you want to achieve through the counseling experience and I will assist you with creating a more dynamic environment to achieve your goals. I bring scholarship and academic knowledge to the practice of psychotherapy and seek to build a collaborative bond with clients in order to work together to achieve better mental health.

Life presents pain and uncertainty. To learn and live by a perspective that takes you beyond ego, is to find meaning in your suffering as you sit with discomfort and take a closer look at your experience with vulnerability. Finding balance within yourself is not gained through the absence of worry and adversity-it’s discovered through a process of understanding and practicing self- acceptance and self-compassion while in the midst of life struggles. Let's explore your relationship with the negative aspects of human experience. As you look inward with honesty and without harsh judgement you can find yourself closer to your true self.
My path to becoming a psychiatric nurse practitioner was inspired by personal experiences. The stigma of mental health obstructs many people's journeys to achieving happiness. As a US Army Veteran, I have seen firsthand how this affects the lives of those struggling and their families. My goal is to enhance awareness and reduce the stigma.
I am an LCSW, trained in cognitive behavioral therapy and trauma focused treatment with over 15 years of experience providing care in private practice, community mental health clinics, and hospital settings. I specialize in working with adults of all ages who are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, and life changes, looking for a space to heal, grow, and create meaningful change.
My style is warm, collaborative, and client centered. I strive to create a space where you feel truly seen, heard, and supported while we work toward your goals at a pace that feels right for you. I believe in helping people tap into their strengths, gain clarity, and move toward the life they want with confidence and emotional resilience.
If your looking for a supportive, encouraging, and growth-focused therapeutic experience, I'm ready to begin this journey with you.
