Vulnerability to hurt, disappointment, sadness, and grief are a normal part of the human experience. In trying to make sense of these struggles, we often turn them inward, forming painful beliefs about ourselves and the world that can shape our relationships and sense of self.
I believe that a genuine, authentic therapist-client relationship has the power to heal. I'm not looking to "fix" my clients, but instead become a fellow traveler in their therapeutic process. We will work collaboratively to identify and remove both conscious and unconscious barriers that may be keeping you stuck, moving you toward a life that is meaningful, authentic, and purposeful. This may involve offering new ideas and techniques, or identifying and shifting unhelpful patterns, transforming them into more adaptive behaviors. In this safe, judgment-free space, you can reconnect to who you truly are.
I completed my graduate studies at New York University's Silver School of Social Work and have worked in both private practice where I served adult individuals and couples, and community-based settings, focused on protecting families and strengthening secure attachments. These experiences have shaped my deep respect for the ways people adapt to early relational environments—and how those adaptations can later create both resilience and pain.
I work with individuals facing depression, anxiety, OCD, relational challenges, attachment wounds, family of origin issues, patterns rooted in early family dynamics and the intergenerational effects of trauma on parenting and relationships, including narcissistic abuse.
I hold a special interest in those impacted by the issues faced by adult children of alcoholics and dysfunctional families.
In a career that first began twenty years ago in the Middle East and journeyed to NYC, I have seen clients from every conceivable background who have sought nurturing guidance to face trauma, anxiety, grief and sadness. Often, whether working with men and women suffering from loss or separation, abuse victims, veterans, refugees, or families of substance abusers, I have witnessed that moment of clarity in a client when they realize there is actually hope for a better, more satisfying life. This, I believe, is the essence of therapy and I strive to smooth the path towards and beyond it.
My aim is to help my clients recover hope and find the hero within. I focus on deepening client/therapist relationship through insight, empathy, mindfulness, humor, care, creativity and humanity. Furthermore, I am determined these be not just words we throw around, but pointers towards a better life filled with dignity.
I love literature and have a Master's degree in Creative Writing. This, I believe, can be another unique window in one's approach to therapy.

Hello. Welcome to my page. My name is Dr. Joshua Romero. I am a New York based, licensed clinical psychologist with 6 years of experience treating a broad range of patients. From university students to the elderly, and everyone else in between. To patients presenting with the more common mental health issues such as depression and anxiety to supporting individuals presenting with significant trauma and severe and persistent mental illness. I have helped those who are going through a divorce and those who are indecisive about what to do in the future. If you are afflicted with addictions or you are having trouble in your relationships, I can help as well. For me, I see psychotherapy as a journey that we take together, helping you to open up new areas of yourself in order to encounter long-lasting healing and growth.
I can provide psychotherapy in Spanish. Soy hablante de Español.
